Jim and Harry will begin with a primer on portable power distribution systems and then broaden the discussion to real-world challenges for electrical rigging.

EWI Coffee Breaks are an opportunity for rental staff to get insights into areas where they may not yet have had much exposure. This session is appropriate for beginners as well as old hands.

Jim Mitchell’s credits as Assistant Chief Lighting Technician (Best Boy) include Ted, American Hustle, The Equalizer, and recently Season 2 of Walking Dead: Dead City.  He also works frequently as a Rigging Electric Best Boy (Little Women, Don’t Look Up, Spirited, Madame Web). Originally from Pittsburgh, film school at BU brought him to Boston where he has been a member of Local 481 for 29 years.

Harry Box is the author of the Set Lighting Technicians Handbook. First published in 1993 and now in its 5thEdition, the book has served as a training manual and reference for lighting technicians for 32 years. Before becoming a lighting technician in LA, Harry started his career building cables and fixing equipment in to back of a Chicago rental house. He became a gaffer in Los Angeles and later a camera operator. For 12 years Harry has been the manager of PERG. He also develops training courses for the Safety Passport training program in southern California. He and his family now live in Massachusetts.
